Match Report
Written by Alex Willet
The fourth game of the season saw Warwick’s 2nd team come to Stoughton road. From seeing previous results of the visitors it was clear that they were a new and developing team. However no complacency and concentration on our own game was key and paid off as within the first two minutes of the game Olamide Ola-said was able to latch on to a good pass from Rob Martin and score. Knowing that the key to winning the game was to start strongly, continuously sustained pressure by strong forward running around the ruk, alongside good solid defensive play saw the score increase. A combination of well organised attack and some inconsistent defending saw the scoreboard tick over to reach over 50 by half-time.
Understandably Warwick 2nd’s were not entirely willing to play the second half but as others had scored heavily against them points difference was a factor. A special mention should be made to Mark Shales and Fionnbharr Carter as they very unselfishly accepted to help Warwick out by playing the second half with them. Their impact to the team was seen immediately as Mark Shales showed his quality with a crunching tackle on the Captain James Dolan. However their influence was not enough to stop the score increasing as after defending most of the game took its toll on the Warwick players who as expected became tired.
Not to be forgotten was the consistent kicking of Rob Martin, tallying up a total of 36 points in conversions. Overall 21 tries were scored by the following; Olamide ola-said (4), Hary Manoharan (1), Alex Willet (2), Liam Sharpe (1), Will Hale (1), Hyunwu Kang (4), Tom Fletcher (3), Nik White (1), Josh Hull (1), Sam Turnball (1), Alex Morrisey (1)
Overall it was a great performance from the team, with players resisting to get white line fever and instead put in a solid team performance that justified the fulltime score.
