Frequently Asked Questions

- Where and when do you play?

We play on Wednesday afternoons with our home games taking place at Stoughton playing fields, about 10 minutes walk from the Oadby Halls. Kick off for home games is usually 1:00pm and for away games we normally meet around 11:30am or earlier (depending on where we have to travel to) outside the Charles Wilson building on campus.

Most courses leave Wednesday afternoons free of lectures to allow people to play sport.
If you would like directions or more information on the univeristies sports facilities.

- Where and when do you train?
We usually train on Sundays at Stoughton playing fields from 10am-12:30am and on Monday nights 6:30pm-7:30pm either on Mandela park, about 10 minutes walk from Uni or the astro turf pitches at the Manor Road sports complex. We sometimes have additional training sessions if we're preparing for a particularly hard game or feel like we need an extra fitness session.
- What about the social life?

The ULRLFC has a well established and very active social life! With the appointment of "TWO" quality social secs, this year promises to have the best socials bar none!

Our socials generally involve us meeting at a bar on a wednesday before slogging our way through Leicester's vast number of fine drinking establishments before reaching our final destination; usually 'The NEWUnion'!

Last year we had socials with various other sports clubs. One social witht eh Cheerleaders involded dressing up as cavemen. There was alos a family social in which each family group dressed as different things...Sam and Fionbahrr should have some awsome socials planned for the year ahead!

- How much does it cost?

Membership of the club varies each season but the general price is around £20. Come along and have a chat with us at the freshers fair to find out the exact cost this year!

Paying your membership fees covers all training, playing, and away game transport so you won't have to fork out any money on top of the original membership fees!

REMEMBER you need to have a sportscard to join any university sports team

- I've never played League before, but have played a bit of Union
Don't worry! most of our club had never played League before joining us. Most people find League to be a faster, more exciting game than Union and enjoy the change.

Two of our former players who came to us with little or no League experience represented Great Britain students abroad and are now playing Rugby League professionally!

- I have never played any kind of rugby before
Don't worry! a number of our players come fresh into rugby league every season and love it. Commitment and effort are the main ingredients of a good rugby league player if you have these and are willing to work at it a bit, you'll do just fine.

In the past we have had excellent converts from basketball, American football and athletics who had never picked up a rugby ball before.

- How do i join?

Simply come along to the Freshers Fair and talk to the guys on the stall or contact a committee member for more information. Alternatively you can join the ULRLFC facebook group and post any messages you want onto that!

As students we know first hand that you don't want to part with joining fees unless you really know that something is for you! For this reason we offer a 'try before you buy' deal which allows you the opportunity to come along to a couple of training sessions before you make any decisions on whether to join up or not!

If after a couple of sessions you don't think league is for you then you can leave knowing that you haven't wasted your money! (This is something that cannot be said for a lot of university clubs!)
