Match Report
Written by Alex Willet

The fifth game of the season against Nottingham 2nd’s was vital to win to keep alive hopes of finishing in the top three. With this in mind the right preparation was crucial and intense work on both attack and defense was done. As the game kicked off the ferocity of ULRLFC’s defense right from the start put Nottingham on the back foot. Great line speed and strong tackling as always meant not an inch was given without a fight. With the platform laid down it was time to put into practice the attacking moves worked on. And this was exactly what was done. The first try came from Ryan Morgan the side stepping master after prolonged pressure in their half. This was then followed shortly by another, as strong incisive running alongside electric pace from Alex Willett allowed him to score.

It was clearly evident that Nottingham were finding it difficult to deal with a defensive performance of the season from ULRLFC. Kicks on the 4th and even 3rd tackle from Nottingham were seen and seemed to be their main idea in attack. Leicester on the other hand were managing to get the ball out wide and impressive handling in tricky conditions meant subsequent tries from Tom Fletcher (still to play a game without being on the score sheet!!), Nik White, Alex Goddard and even Hary Manoharan who somehow scored twice. The tries were the consequence of the ball being shipped out wide with well drilled moves, good organisation and clinical finishing. The play of the day was definitely Hary’s second which came from excellent flowing rugby. Starting from a brilliant run from Olamide Ola-said into the oppositions half, then quick ball from Alex Goddard to Alex Willett and then to Sam Turnbull, who with a great pass managed to find Hary who nicely finished off the move. This try late on in the second half was a testament to the team’s fitness and drive to support runners. Josh Hull with dominating runs gained a worthy man of the match performance and it became clear later on in the game that the opposing team were finding him impossible to handle. Overall it was an inspired performance from the whole team, putting the ULRLFC in real contention to finish in the top three.
